Details: Launched in 1940 and commissioned in 1941, the battleship Yamato was the first of a new generation of Japanese battleships intended to qualitatively outmatch the American fleet. Withdrawal from the Washington and London naval treaties allowed construction of a ship of unparalleled size and power, bringing an end to a 20 year hiatus in capital ships. All that remained was to lure the Americans across the pacific into a deadly trap where they would be worn down and weakened before Yamato and Musashi waded into battle like great brawlers, able to effortlessly rain destruction from outside the range of American battleships, and resist their shells at closer range. But the decisive fleet battle never happened, and as the years passed, Yamato passed from battle to battle without ever seeing the enemy, sometimes being used as a troop transport. In her last two major operations, Yamato finally had a baptism of fire-but at the hands of escort ships and airplanes. In 1945, she was sent to Okinawa without enough fuel to return, ordered to beach herself and become a fortress. Less than 100 miles from Japan, she rolled over, blew in half, and sank under constant air attack. There things should have ended, had it not been for...well whatever makes the spirits of WW2 warships incarnate as cute girls and fight monsters from the abyss.
It was perhaps inevitable that when incarnated, Yamato would turn out to be a Yamato nadeshiko, and not the fight-happy puncher-girl that her sister Musashi is. She attends flower viewings, does housework and cooking, and wears kimono elegantly. The only things that can make her mad, it seems, is calling her a Hotel, and attempting to attack her friends. She is otherwise extremely polite, even by Japanese standards, until you get her into combat. Even there, she is merely more assertive and confident, emboldened by the fact that she can finally throw her weight around and do what she was made for. She is also known for her respect for her seniors(practically everyone) and her stalwart defense of those weaker than herself(also practically everyone.) A pillar of virtue, that is Yamato. She's not judgmental either-though given how Musashi dresses, it would be rather hypocritical to leave her sister be and pass judgement on others. She gets along well with foreigners to-very well in the case of BB-61.
Internally, Yamato is a deeply conflicted shipgirl. She knows that constructing her was a waste of national resources, that she was costly to deploy-too costly in fact, for most of the war, and when finally comitted to battle, she arrived late and proved to have defective design in her underwater protection. She was a top-secret vessel who was ridiculed as the 'Yamato Hotel' during the war, who sank a single escort carrier in battle before running away, and then was destroyed shamefully. The fact that she has been much idolized post-war must cut at her like a knife-her favorite show is unquestionably not Space Battleship Yamato. Self-doubt wounds her and keeps her from reaching her full potential. Yet she hungers for a chance to prove herself, to show that if Kancolle has a 5-Star ship, it must be her! The costs may be high, but she would like to at long last, have a small boast of her own.
Above all, she is steadfast, loyal, and fierce in battle, and kind and resolute outside of it. After an extended period hidden away for secrecy's sake, she's finally had a few chances to show her skills.
Memory Loss Level: Total
Allow Painful Regains? Yes
Regains:
46cm Triple Gun Mount (Item)The largest rifled guns ever mounted on a battleship, these have no peer in range or ability to cause damage. Comes with shells the weight of a small car-or they would weight that much if at full-scale.
15.5cm Triple Gun Mount (Item)
Mid-sized guns good for a Cruiser's main battery, or a Battleship's secondaries. Useful for avoiding treaty restrictions.
12.7cm Twin High-angle Gun Mount (Item)
Intended to increase AA defense, this weapon is far from the best, and could not prevent the horrible conclusion of Operation Ten-Go.
25mm Triple Autocannon Mount (Item)
A typical set of 25mm AA guns for a Japanese warship. Is of rather low effectiveness due to short range and small size.
Tripod Parasol (Item)
A parasol with three supports, like the mast of a ship, and an orange and white pattern.
Standard Fittings (Item)
Parts of a ship model sliced up and welded together to produce this strange outfit contrast with the asymetirical kneesocks, shoulder baring jacket, and skirt held up by anchor-like clips. The red-soled high-heels have rudders on them.(reference)
Refit Outfit (Item)
Another ship parts-outfit, but the black kneesock has a set of Japanese characters on it which can be read as a slogan saying "no men can oppose the (divine) emperor". (reference)
Nautical Beachware (Item)
A white bikini with red tripm and a red wrap with black stripe tied around the hip. Comes with sandals, dangling anchors from the hips, and enough Ramune for a day at the beach. (reference)
Hotel Yamato (Memory)
Endless days dawn and fade in the south seas. A floating palace-regal and serene, a fortress awaiting a climax that will never come. Oddly dual-natured, as if this happened twice.
Operation Ten-Go (Memory)
Death lighter than a feather. Duty heavier than a mountain. An avalanche falls upon the homeland, and you are called to make the ultimate sacrifice for honor. Your enemies are numberless and powerful-the outcome is never in doubt.
Operation Sho-Go (Memory)
Your one battle worthy of the name. A bloody trial that cost you your sister, your comrades, and ultimately your pride. For all your power and strength, the tiny foes you found yourself locked in battle with befuddled you, and forced you to turn and run.
Refloating (Memory)
Death is but a door-and you have walked through it both ways, returning to the land of the living in an unfamiliar shape. Still, that is not reason not to smile and be polite about it. Greet your friends and everyone with poise.
Victory At Sea (Memory)
The Enemy scattered before your constant thunder, running with seafoam before you under a clear sky-is this a memory, or a dream? A worthy foe before you at last, all guns, maximum elevation!
Personal Air Conditioning (Ability)
The ability to always have a bubble of personally heated and cooled air at a comfortable temperature.
Ever-flowering hairdo (Ability)
Where do all these sakura petals come from and get stuck in your hair? Nobody knows, but as long as you have this ability, there is always a fresh supply of them. Thankfully, if knocked out of your hair, they soon vanish.
Ice Cream Dispenser(Ability)
The secret techniques by which you produce nigh-unlimited ice cream are unknown, but you always have enough to share.
Soul of the Seas (Ability)
A ship has a soul of it's own, made by those who crafted and served aboard it. This ability allows emulation of those traits, like being able to walk on water, and the use of rigging which supports naval artillery, but you may slip and fall on your rear trying to use it at first.
Iron Within (Ability)
A battleship's soul is reflected in the body as well. Damage resistance equivalent to a 70,000 ton ship of war, and the strength of one as well.
Fairy Crew (Ability)
All your equipment gains tiny chibi crew-members and anthropomorphic representations who hang out on and around you, and will do your bidding. These extra tiny hands just want to make themselves useful.
One Thousand Household Skills (Ability)
Perhaps a bit grandly named, but this ability envelops a wide variety of domestic skills-from cleaning a house, to washing and sewing, to haute cuisine. Useful in a wide variety of situations.
RP Sample: Old game, never really took off.
